School's Vision, Mission and Values
At St James’ Church of England Primary School, our Vision and Mission statements are rooted in Christian teaching, but they also express values that are recognised and respected by people of many faiths, including Islam. They describe how we aim to live well together, how every person deserves dignity, and how our school community flourishes when these principles guide our daily life.
Vision Statement:
Guided by our Christian Values, we endeavour to inspire, cherish and serve our school community. We strive to be exceptional in all we do. We will nurture a love of all God’s children. We seek to build respect for all faiths and beliefs.
‘Serve one another in love’
(Galatians 5.13)
Mission Statement:
"Together we value, inspire and develop each other within a happy, safe community based on Christian values and respect for other faiths."
‘Show respect to everyone’
(Peter 1 2.17)
Our Theologically-rooted Vision:
“Guided by our Christian Values…”
Christian values such as kindness, respect, compassion, honesty and service provide the foundation for our school community. These values are widely shared across other major faiths, including Islam, which also emphasises care for others, truthfulness and generosity.
Being guided by these values means that our school culture promotes fairness, empathy and mutual support.
“We endeavour to inspire, cherish and serve…”
Service to others is an important theme in Christian theology - the belief that people should use their gifts for the benefit of others. This aligns with the broader idea, present in many faith traditions, that a strong community is built when individuals care for the wellbeing of others.
This is rooted in Galatians 5:13 - “Serve one another in love.”
In practice, this means we encourage acts of kindness, community involvement and a sense of responsibility toward others.
“We nurture a love of all God’s children…”
Christian teaching holds that every human being is created by God and is equally precious. This belief calls us to treat every child - whatever their culture, needs or background - with respect and care.
This aligns closely with Islamic teaching about the value and dignity of every person.
“We seek to build respect for all faiths and beliefs.”
A core principle of Christian teaching is the dignity of every individual. This supports the idea that people should be treated with respect, even when their beliefs differ.
This is reinforced by 1 Peter 2:17 - “Show respect to everyone.”
In our multi-faith school community, this means creating an environment where all children feel safe, valued and understood. We actively teach children to appreciate and learn from different backgrounds and traditions, building harmony and mutual respect.
Mission: “Together we value, inspire and develop each other…”
Christian theology emphasises the importance of community - people growing and thriving together. Our mission reflects this belief in collective flourishing.
Children learn best when they feel encouraged, supported and empowered. Staff model these principles daily, helping children develop confidence, resilience and strong relationships.
“…within a happy, safe community based on Christian values.”
Christian tradition speaks of community life grounded in peace, wellbeing and justice. These ideas shape our commitment to safeguard children, promote positive relationships and create a school where everyone feels they belong.
By building a happy, secure community, we honour the Christian principle that wellbeing and dignity matter deeply.
Respecting Other Faiths
Honouring the value of every child means recognising and respecting the faiths represented in our school, including Islam.
Our theological foundation calls us to show fairness, dignity and openness to all. This strengthens relationships, builds trust and prepares children to live confidently within a diverse society.
