Welcome from the Headteacher

Guided by our Christian vision, St James' Church of England Primary School offers high quality education for children in an inspiring, happy, safe environment. The staff and pupils are very proud of the school and strive to be "Exceptional in all we do."

The school endeavours to develop all children to achieve to the best of their abilities, whether they are academic high flyers, or in need of a little more support.  At St James’ we believe that learning should be stimulating and meeting the needs of all. The school seeks to help children become self-confident, independent individuals who respect all faiths and beliefs and recognise their growing responsibilities as citizens.

The staff work hard to foster positive, successful relationships with the parents, families and the wider community. The school values the important role that parents play and encourages an effective home school relationship.

       Mr P. Morgan

St. James’ CE Primary School Blackburn was rated’ Excellent’ following a SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and. Methodist Schools) inspection, which looks at how schools perform as Church of England schools.

Inspector Fiona Ashton said: “The school’s Christian vision is carefully and biblically rooted in the Christian message. It is understood, valued and demonstrated by all members of this welcoming and harmonious community.

"Leadership at all levels is exceptional. It focuses on identifying each individual’s unique potential as a child of God. As a consequence, all are nurtured for emotional resilience, academic success and professional fulfilment.

"The inspiring head teacher receives excellent support from dedicated governors and talented colleagues. Inclusion is excellent.

"Adults are creative and caring in the way that they support individuals so that they flourish in a manner that is life-changing for some and life-enhancing for all.”

Headteacher Philip Morgan, said, “we are really proud of the report which reflects the hard work of the staff and governors and highlights the wonderful community we have here at St James’.”

St. James' School Focus

As a Church School, we constantly review and evaluate our vision and mission, and how these are intertwined with our school values. In consultation with staff, Governors, pupils and the school community, the school’s new vision statement is:

The school’s mission statement and values support the vision. The mission statement and nine school values still remain, however we are going to be focusing on 3 core values of:

Courage -  ‘Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ (Joshua 1.9)

Love - ‘Serve one another in love’ (Galatians 5.13)

Respect - ‘Show respect to everyone’ (Peter 1 2.17)

Over the next term, these will be explored in greater depth through Religious Education and Worship, and throughout school.

A Visit from Blackburn Hawks

On Thursday 28th November, KS2 received a visit from a representative from Blackburn Hawks ice hockey team. Community manager Chris Riley brought the team mascot Harvey the Hawk to tell pupils all about ice hockey and what they can do if they want to get involved. They looked at the equipment needed and some children had a try using the hockey stick and puck.

If you are interested in attending a game there is the opportunity to do so on Sunday 15th December for just £1 per person. Please see the letter pupils were given for further information. Alternatively, you can contact the school office. Please ensure that any money sent is the exact amount and is attached in a sealed envelope.

Robinwood
Robinwood 2019

Children and staff from Y6 attended Robinwood in Todmorden at the beginning of the school year. This trip provided the children a chance to take part in activities that aren't normally accessible in our day to day lives.

During their two night stay, Year 6 took part in sports such as rock climbing, caving, canoeing, and zip-wiring.

View the video below to see what the children experienced.
